A Look Back At Some Top Selling Tires of 2015

February 15th, 2016

At Don Owen Tire in Bloomington, IL, tires are our specialty (of course…it’s right in our name!). With tires from great brands like Goodyear, BF Goodrich, Tires in Bloomington IL Bridgestone and Michelin, we’d like to take a look at a few of our top sellers from last year:

·         Bridgestone Blizzak: The winters around Bloomington, IL can be tough, but a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks will help your chances of getting through them without getting stuck. The Bridgestone Blizzak is a winter/snow tire that features a tread compound that stays soft at low temperatures for traction. The Blizzak’s directional tread design has thousands of biting edges for traction, braking and steering response in wet or dry road conditions. Bridgestone’s innovative Multicell rubber formulation incorporates millions of microscopic pores for extra traction on ice without metal studs. The Blizzak studless tire has been shown to stop vehicles in 35 feet less than all-season radials (at 30 mph).

·         Michelin Defender: This all-season touring tire from Michelin is a longtime favorite of drivers of cars, minivans and crossovers. The all-season silica-based tread compound of the Michelin Defender uses Michelin’s Green-X technology for low rolling resistance, extra long wear, and a forgiving ride quality. The Defender’s IntelliSipe Technology is designed for an extra-rigid tread block and more biting edges for traction in light snow and rain. Four circumferential grooves and hundreds of lateral grooves help move water away from the tire footprint in wet weather.

·         Firestone Destination A/T: The tough Destination A/T from Firestone is a popular choice for trucks, Jeeps and SUVs, with good road manners and excellent off-road traction. The Destination A/T is designed with Firestone’s exclusive Long Link Carbon tread compound for cut and abrasion resistance off-road along with wet-weather performance and long wear on the highway. The tread pattern features a continuous center rib with independent intermediate blocks and wrap-around shoulders for wintertime traction and great stability on the highway. Twin high-tensile steel cord belts, wrapped with spiral-wrapped nylon on a polyester cord casing, provide ride comfort and durability.

·         Goodyear Assurance TripleTred All Season: If you’re looking for a great all-season tire for coupes, sedans and minivans, you can’t go wrong with the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred All-Season. The TripleTred design incorporates three distinct sections of tread for traction in dry, wet or snowy conditions. The Dry Zone’s large shoulder blocks are designed for great handling on dry pavement, while the Water Zone’s Aquachannel grooves move water and slush away from the contact patch in wet weather. Finally, the Ice Zone uses a unique tread compound that mixes polymers with volcanic sand and glass fibers to enhance traction. Goodyear’s Evolving Traction Grooves actually enhance traction as the tire wears down – they start as 1/10” wide sipes, then broaden into wider lateral grooves as the tire surface wears.
